An overlooked issue

So a general election has been called, and Canadians are pondering a revised Green Shift and a sputtering economy.
One issue below the radar is how Conservatives want to amend the Copyright Act.
Introduced June 12, Bill C-61 was supposedly designed to "update" copyright law for the Internet age.
The government said the bill tried to balance the rights of the creative community with those of consumers.
Critics said C-61 was all about serving the interests of copyright-rich corporations.
Critics said the legislation mirrored a U.S. law that diminished consumers' rights, but the government said most of the bill was "made in Canada."
New Democrat MP Charlie Angus and Industry Minister Jim Prentice had a lively exchange on the topic in June.

The bill was to receive second reading this fall. It will now have to be introduced again if it is to become law. And the Conservatives will do that. You can bet the iPod on it.
