New in Town, about which I've posted previously and in which I have a slight personal interest, opens today in cinemas across North America.
Alas, most reviewers don't like it. The consensus seems to be that it's cliched and unfunny.
Over at The Globe and Mail, Rick Groen says there's "nothing remotely new about New in Town," but he does praise Winnipeg for a fine job of portraying southern Minnesota. The city gives "by far the most stirring performance in the flick," he writes. "The 'Peg does frigid real good."
I can't help but think that the movie can't be as bad as some critics say it is. Star Renee Zellweger is, after all, terrific at comedy. And really cute.
