Not red-baiting but blue-baiting, I suppose

My city council decided yesterday, by a vote of 10-6, to convert the water and waste department into a stand-alone utility driven by people in the private sector.
Here's what the local broadsheet singled out as the debate's top quote, from one of the mayor's allies: "(The utility's opponents are) throwing 'privatization' around the way Joe McCarthy used to throw around 'Communism.'"
That's an ironic choice, given how the paper covered Tuesday's protest rally.
Overall, however, the broadsheet's coverage of yesterday's council proceedings was fair to both sides of the debate. So was the daily tabloid's.
A West End observer did a nice job of live blogging on the proceedings.
