Polanski forced anal sex on a child. That's rape

Finally, France's government has succumbed to common sense and decency in the case of Roman Polanski. It is no longer calling for the brilliant film director and sicko rapist's release.
If only certain celebrities could see the light.
Whoopi Goldberg has embarrassed and lowered herself to sub-Hasselbeck depths with her assertion on The View this week that what Polanski did to a 13-year-old girl in California 32 years ago "wasn't rape-rape."
Meanwhile, a long list of Hollywood notables that includes Martin Scorsese and Tilda Swinton have publicly called on authorities to let Polanski go.
Good grief, Charlie Brown.
The record plainly shows Polanski raped a child. And yes, Ms. Goldberg, it was real rape. A guy sticking his penis in a girl's vagina and anus despite being pleaded and begged not to is rape by anyone's definition, isn't it?
I remember being surprised by Polanski's win at the Oscars a few years back for The Pianist. At that point I still hadn't seen the film. After viewing it a couple of weeks later, I had to agree that he probably deserved an Oscar for it.
And he deserves to spend time behind bars for what he did to a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

I don't know..... Polanski's crime of statutory rape may have resolved itself as a victimless crime by now with his undisclosed settlement with Samantha Geimer. But his crime of flight to evade justice has not been resolved. And it cannot be resolved until such time as he is remanded into custody of the same court from which he has been a fugitive for three decades.

Whatever settlement he made with the victim is irrelevant. He pleaded guilty in criminal court and then fled before sentencing. This is entirely a criminal, not civil, matter.

The victim testified before a grand jury to being a victim of something much more serious than statutory rape (which is serious enough, considering her rather young age at the time -- three years below the age of consent in California in 1977).

The law does not seem harsh in this case. It seems just.

One system of law for all.
As Comedian Chris Rock said of OJ Simpson, if he'd been a bus driver he'd been thrown in jail without a second of public deliberation or excuses about race, known personality, legacy , fame whatever.
Same deal with Robert Blake who also got off.

Roman Polanski is one of the greatest directors of all time, and he raped a 13 year old and skipped out on his sentence.
He is a fugitive.

Very well put, SJ. Cheers.

13 yr old? Raped her anally? She pleaded with him not to?

Hang him by his nuts for a few years. The little dick head deserves nothing better.

Oh, and wasn't the mother of the 13 yr old complicit in the rape?
Hang her too.

Hear, hear, Sagacious One. It's really sickening that some people are saying Polanski has suffered by having to live in exile unable to travel to certain countries. In reality the guy's rich and has lived poshly with praise and adoration heaped upon him.

Here's a Polanski quote that one blogger says "leaps horrifically" from the page in an newspaper interview: "If I had killed somebody, it wouldn’t have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But… fucking, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to fuck young girls. Juries want to fuck young girls. Everyone wants to fuck young girls!" He's utterly depraved.

Polanski needs to take responsibility for his crimes and their consequences. However, in disposing his case consideration is due that he admitted guilt pursuant to a plea agreement that a judge refused to accept after the fact.
