Canada took first- and second-place honours today in Fossil awards at Copenhagen.
First for the environment minister's declared desire to replace the Kyoto Protocol with something less unpleasant for Ottawa.
Second for its chief negotiator insisting down-graded emission-reduction goals are "science-based."
You done us proud, boys. Done us proud.

They must have both been contaminated by - er - been corrupted by George W. Bush when he was up there a while back giving his monumentous "speech."
These same global climate change deniers believe in the pseudo science of creationism and that prayer works better than doctors. But they will turn around and beg science to come up with alternatives to coal and oil when they run out.
I guess one could use their blindness and stupidity as an argument against evolution Mr. Stimpson. They're as dumb as Neanderthals. Or should I say Home Erectus because Neaderthals are appartently not on our evolutionary tree.
Plus I get to type the words "homo" and "erectus" which will piss off some moralist right wing do gooder. That's always a good thing. Thanks for the lead in.
LOL @ Truth!!! You said a mouthful. My attention turns to Copenhagen... and I hope for the best... yet, Kerry and the Repugs are slashing greenhouse gas reduction to 17% / how can Obama walk through the door with nothing, really, to show? This sux.
But on a completely different channel; Happy season Stimpson! And all....
Considering your tar sands, it is a bit ironic.
I'm glad to see there's some interest in this, at least among my small band of readers. I know it's not as attention-grabbing as the war in Afghanistan, but the implications for humankind are more far-reaching. Which is what makes the climate change denialists' foolishness rather dangerous.
