Yesterday's topic reminded me of an article a friend sent me a few weeks ago about what's put in shampoos to give your hair extra shine or a silky smooth feeling. I can't find the article now, but a British website does a nice job of giving you the lowdown on what might be in that bottle.
"Diethanolamine (DEA) is a chemical found in shampoos which helps to create the soapy lather. ... But if DEA reacts with other ingredients ... it's possible that a substance called nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA) is formed which is a known carcinogen.
"Some dyes used in shampoos ... are suspected carcinogens and best avoided.
"Propyelene glycol is a petrochemical which acts a synthetic binder and softener ... However, yet again it is a suspected carcinogen and can also cause contact dermatitis."
Etc.
Read the summary and it'll change the way you look at that shampoo in your bathroom.

That's it! I'm shaving my head!
Good job, Stimpson!
Thanks for dropping by, FA and GHB.
Yea, this shit aint real good for you, but considering you put it on and wash it off I don't worry too much about it.
What makes me shutter is food additives and high fructose corn syrup. There are some nasty things (worse than ethanolamines) going directly into our bodies (on a cellular level) and sitting there from the processed food industry.
As with food additives, any old shit these huge corporate manufacturers can put in to make their products cheaper and more profitable to manufacture is just fine with them, so long as they boost their profits. I wonder what they'll do once all their customer base is killed off?
MSNBC just did a special on food safety in your supermarket. It was scary to know how dangerous it can be if not properly preserved. The shampoo thing makes one think also, however Sagacious said it well: You put it on and then wash it off:-)
P.S. Stimp could you send me a quick mail? I seem to have misplaced your address. I am at madmikes1@gmail.com. Thanks!
I know, it's not so scary if you consider that the shampoo is removed almost as soon as it's applied. Still, toxins are (duh?) toxic, so I can't imagine it's entirely safe to be putting this stuff on your scalp.
I could do a whole series of posts about the "poisons" in our everyday lives, but then I'm a bit late for that. Halloween has passed.
HI, I came across the damage meter test designed to know what kind of treatment or conditioning your hair needs. This test is devised by a hair expert. The shampoo variants recommended in the test result would only help you to improve your hair if it is dull, dry or have Split ends.
Click the link below to take the test.
